Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck beach, is a coastline on the Greek Ionian island of Zakynthos. The beach earns its name due to the remains of a 1980’s freightliner that occupies its sandy shores. The Ship, Panagiotis was grounded on the Island after encountering stormy weather while fleeing the Greek Navy for smuggling illegal contraband. The ship remains left by the Greek smugglers inadvertently injected new life into the island by making it a popular tourist destination.

Prior to the Shipwreck, Zakynthos had been suffering record low population levels during the late 1970’s and early1980’s. The combination of Zakynthos’ chalk white beach’s, crystalline blue water and alluring limestone Cliffs make this island one of the most beautiful destinations to visit in the Mediterranean.

Drawing from the spirit, unique dishes, spices and culture of the island, Navayo Restaurant captures the atmosphere of the Island to bring you a truly authentic Greek dining experience; one that you won’t find anywhere else in Toronto.
